Hi everyone,

Well i am new to the area, we moved in just 4 weeks ago so am delighted to find this forum and have to say i am loving living in Malahide already. Its near the sea, neighbours seem great, friendly people and tons of facilities. Having just come from one of the celtic tigers purpose built estates on the outskirts of Dublin (which shall remain nameless!), its great to be in a more settled area now.

So, what advice do you good people have for a newbie like myself? i.e. Nicest restaurants, takeaways, best clubs/sporting or otherwise, nicest walks, best bargains to be had, boutiques, beauticians ??? Give me the full lowdown please......

Let the debate begin ;)

Personal favourites

Personal favourites, although I don't get out enough to be an expert :-(

  • Seabank restaurant for that special meal (my b'day for example!). Lots of wonderful seafood with a distinctly French slant. Only place outside of France where I've seen the freebie tapenade while you browse the menu. And best oysters I've ever tasted.
  • For a really tasty meal without either breaking the bank or stuffing yourself to the eyeballs The Greedy Goose. You select a mixture of small portions, mix and match with your companions. Yum.
  • Among daytime cafes, I really like That's Amore (though I think its previous name of Cafe La Marina was much classier). Really nice service, not as hectic as a lot of cafes these days, Lavazza coffee on tap. Also some really good grub on the menu. Nice for breakfast and child-friendly.

I'll leave someone else to fill you in on the beauticians!

malahide cafes and walks

Welcome Sinny,

Plenty of nice places to walk in and around Malahide - in the castle grounds or the coast road walk - great for a cycle too.  So nice at this time of year when dry. Kids have a ball on the beach - just a pair of wellies required.

As with a lot of places in Ireland it can be hard to find outside cafes, (I know the weather is the issue) - but the garden centre at back of castle is good to sit outside and good with kids.  It is now Insomnia, which has great coffee - but a pity the previous restaurant closed.  It was a great place for lunch...

I was in the castle itself recently and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food there - this is perhaps not somewhere that locals think of going, perhaps more for vistitors, but worth a visit.

Here's hoping for some decent weather ahead..
